Driving Miss Daisy
Cultures clash in a beloved comedy classic
by:
Alfred Ury
Directed by:
Chip Egan
Show Dates:
June 10, 2010 to June 26, 2010

The place is the Deep South, the time 1948, just prior to the civil rights movement. Having just demolished yet another car, a rich Jewish widow named Daisy Werthan is informed by her son, Boolie, that she must now rely on a chauffeur.

The chauffer Boolie hires is Hoke Coleburn,  a thoughtful, unemployed black man whom Daisy immediately regards with disdain. Boolie, on the other hand, is not impressed with Daisy’s patronizing tone and what he believes is her latent prejudice.

Winner of the 1988 Pulitzer Prize and the Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Off-Broadway Play, Driving Miss Daisy is a warm-hearted, humorous and affecting study of the unlikely relationship between an crotchety white Southern aristocrat and a proud, soft-spoken black man. "A total delight,” said NY Daily News.

Director Chip Egan’s cast includes Greenville favorites Shirley Sarlin as Daisy Werthan, Clark Nesbitt as Hoke Coleburn and Rick Connor as Boolie Werthan.
