Centre Stage kicks off its 25th Anniversary Season with a fresh spin on a timeless tale of love - The Fantasticks - the longest running musical in Broadway history. Produced in over 2,000 cities and 67 countries since its premiere in 1960, The Fantasticks was last performed at Centre Stage during the theater's 1986-1987 season.

Director Benjamin P. Robinson (The Edith Whartons, Moonlight and Magnolias, Beehive) is collaborating with musical director Jim Broussard, choreographer Kimberlee Ferreira and set designer/costumer Kim Granner to create an atmosphere of "sheer romantic magic," as Robinson describes it. Granner has swept away the traditionally austere production motif, replacing it with the broad strokes of fancy and rich colors that make her work so instantly recognizable. Technical Director Guy Perticone, Greenville's own "painter of light," has augmented Centre Stage's already formidable array of lighting instruments to help realize Robinson's vision.

"This is the strongest production team Centre Stage has ever assembled," says Centre Stage Executive Director BJ Koonce. "I can't think of a better, more exciting way to begin our second quarter-century as Greenville's premiere professional theater."

Even those new to theater will recognize the songs that have made The Fantasticks a cornerstone of American musical theater. Try To Remember, Soon Its Gonna Rain and They Were You are just of few of the legendarily lyrical numbers that cross cultural lines to play upon the heartstrings of audiences young and old.

The cast of The Fantasticks includes Tim Brosnan as El Gallo, Anna Beth Bonney as Luisa and Brady Smith as Matt. Other cast members include Rick Connor, Jim Davis, Adrian Craven, Andy Croston and Daniel Jordon.

Centre Stage has partnered with the Metropolitan Arts Council (MAC) to present the works of Carl Blair as its lobby exhibit during the entire run of The Fantasticks. This exhibit, entitled "Come to me, my love," will have its opening reception at the theater on October 5 from 6:30 until 9 pm.
