Testimonial
"Christ Church Episcopal School recently had the opportunity to have Warren Mowry from Centre Stage on our campus. Mr. Mowry came to our school while the 8th grade was reading the play Inherit the Wind, which tied in with our reading. Mr. Mowry’s characterization of famed attorney Clarence Darrow was brilliant. In reprising the role of Darrow, Mr. Mowry donned the appropriate clothing and mannerisms of Darrow. The brilliance of the show, however, was Mr. Mowry’s presentation. Mr. Mowry spoke for over an hour without error, and kept the audience captivated with his performance. Over the years we have had many presentations at CCES, but I do not think that any of these has been of the quality of Mr. Mowry’s show. His presentation chronicled the early life of Darrow and covered the major trials he presented. If given the opportunity to have Warrem Mowry come to your school, I would not hesitate to do so."

With a career stretching from the late 1870s until the mid-1930s, Darrow was in the spotlight for many of the most famous, and infamous cases of all, perhaps most notably the 1925 Scopes “Monkey Trial,” a watershed in the creation-evolution controversy that rages to this day.

Greenville attorney Warren Mowry has been bringing Clarence Darrow to life for decades, first at The Warehouse Theatre, and since then to a wide range of audiences, including the Spartanburg Bar Association which awards continuing legal education credits for attendance at his performances. Now, for the first time, Centre Stage is making Mowry’s characterization of one of the most controversial and acclaimed attorneys in American history available to South Carolina public schools. After earning his Juris Doctorate from the University of South Carolina School of Law, Warren served as the 13th Circuit Assistant Solicitor in Greenville County (1982-94), as instructor of criminal justice at Greenville Technical College (1994-2000) and as head of that department (2000-07). He now serves as legal and political consultant for WYFF News 4, WSPA 7 and WHNS Fox21. He also happens to be one of Greenville’s finest actors.

The historical Darrow
Clarence Darrow is the one attorney in American history against whom all others are measured. With a career stretching from the late 1870s until the mid-1930s, he was in the spotlight for many of the most famous, and infamous cases of all, perhaps most notably the 1925 Scopes “Monkey Trial,” a watershed in the creation-evolution controversy that rages to this day. His involvement in the labor movement, the civil liberties debates, political campaigns, and many of the most notorious criminal trials of his era makes him a leading figure for study.

A stirring history lesson, a morality tale, a dramatic encounter with one of the 20th century’s most celebrated Americans, Clarence Darrow: An Exploration of Ethics is as thought-provoking as it is entertaining.
